Welcome To Opening The Door: Your Inclusive Sport Guide
We welcome you to Opening The Door: Your Inclusive Sport Guide. We’ve created this unique resource for community sport clubs, their coaches, leaders and volunteers who are committed to opening doors for children and youth with disabilities through inclusive sport.
We live in communities where inclusion is the norm for children and youth with disabilities. Schools, workplaces and countless community settings are welcoming environments for all community members. Children and youth, along with their families, expect sport settings to be inclusive too.
Opening The Door focuses on the needs of children and youth with all types of disability. You’ll find that concepts, approaches and tools can also be applied regardless of the type or degree of disability that your participant has. For example, in the Be An Inclusive Sport Game Changer section we outline three pillars of inclusion that apply to any group wanting to live, work and play in communities that are inclusive. You’ll find tools — like the Meet My Child Information Form — that can be used by all groups that welcome children into community programs.
Whether you’re a sport club, coach, volunteer, parent or community partner there’s something for you in this guide. Let’s open doors to inclusive sport together!
